Question: My boyfriend has asked me to write to see if anybody can offer any advice about yoga classes for people suffering from severe RSI. Would standard classes for everyone be a bit strenuous for people suffering from RSI? He is based in the London area.
Answer: Yoga is OK, as long as you avoid the postures that cause discomfort. For me, the Dog is a bit iffy, as it puts strain on the wrists. I completely avoid the “Crow”. I am sure the teacher won’t mind if he just sits quietly when those postures are being done in the class. Do discuss with the teacher what the problem areas are – they will be sympathetic I am sure. I have found that the breathing/relaxation elements of Yoga practice to be a great benefit.
