Question: Has anyone had any experience with taking Omega 3 oils? Have they worked for you and what have you experienced taking them?
Answer 1: I take an essential fatty acid tablet daily and also make sure I get a balance of omega 6 and omega 3 in my diet – nuts and seeds and oily fish. Essential fatty acids are often deficient in diet or there is an imbalance of omega 6 to omega 3. Both go to make anti-inflammatory substances (prostaglandins) and should help with joint inflammation. However, omega 6 also makes the inflammatory prostaglandins and so a balance is required. Red meat and dairy can be inflammatory. There are many good nutrition books out there which should explain the essential fatty acids and give advice on diets and supplements.
