Reprogramming pain receptors

Question: I’m new to the list but not to RSI. I’m currently going through a flare-up so I spoke to my GP. She said that if I wanted she could prescribe a drug that had originally been used as an antidepressant but was now being used as a method of ‘Reprogramming the pain receptors’ – her explanation was that after RSI episodes our pain receptors can fire off pain signals when there really is no pain, and this drug works to reset them (i.e. raise the pain threshold back to normal). She said it definitely wasn’t a pain killer. Sorry, I forget the name; it was one of those long drug names. Does anyone have any knowledge of this sort of treatment? It sounds a bit odd to me but I’d try anything if it helped.
